30 candidate eligible. Login details for participating in the online translation sent to each eligible contestant:

The judges shortlisted 30 contestants for 2nd stage. 30 successful contestants were emailed the login details on 4th February 2019.

We will also be publishing the list of the final 10 contestants on this website after the completion of this round.

Entry deadline

The competition will run for 3 weeks from Monday 4th of February to Sunday 24th of February 2019. The stage of the competition is only open to the 30 contestants shortlisted. The list of the shortlisted contestants that are eligible appears here.
To be eligible for entry into the pool of translations to be judged by our distinguished panel in this 2nd stage, participants must:


  • Be one of the 30 shortlisted candidates listed here.
  • Login to our website and complete one of the opera plays.
  • Complete and submit the online translation by the deadline of 24th February 2019.
  • Agree that submissions will not be considered if all these steps are not completed.
  • All entries must be received by midnight on 24th February 2019.
  • Agree that finalists will be announced on our website and via email to address provided by the finalists in the original online entry form.
  • Agree that all entries will reviewed and shorlisted to ten (10) finalists.
  • Accept that it is from among the last ten (10) that three winners would emerge in the first, second and third positions.
  • Accept that the final stage of the competition would involve the physical appearance of the ten final participants in Ososa, Ogun State. This will involve writing down the translation of an opera to be chosen by the judging panel. It is expected to last 2 days.
  • Agree that road travel, accomodation and lodging costs of the ten participants will be covered by the museum.
  • Accept that by completing and submitting the online translation you agree that the decision of the judges will be final and cannot be queried or challenged.
  • Prizes and chance of winning

    Total value of all prizes to be awarded is ₦ 1,070,000.

  • The First prize will be ₦500,000
  • The First prize will be ₦300,000
  • The First prize will be ₦200,000

  • 7 runners up will receive ₦10,000 each

    Eligibility

    Entry for this translation competition will only be considered from Nigerians based in Nigeria who are aged 18 or older. However, all Nigerians around the world are free to have fun attempting the translation. Employees of Ogunde Museum, children and relatives of the Ogunde family and immediate family members of the judges and persons living in the same household, are not eligible to participate in this translation competition. Participation in this translation competition constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules.

    Ownership of Translated works

    By entering into this translation competition, you agree that the translation will be owned wholly and solely by the Ogunde Museum. It will be illegal for you to sell, share or otherwise distribute the translation.

    Additional Conditions

    Except where prohibited by law, by accepting any prize, any winner consents to the use of his/her name, photo and/or likeness, biographical information, and statements attributed to winner (if true) for Ogunde Museum's promotional purposes without additional compensation.
